We have collectively made it through the first two weeks of the spring 2025 semester. We will send out a campus announcement about upcoming engagement opportunities in a few weeks. These events will include:
- A lunch and learn in March featuring Union County District Court officials. This will allow our community to learn more about the local court system.
- A lunch and learn featuring new Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department Chief Dan Embeck in April.
- An evening series on a Day in the Life of Public Safety. This training will use VR so that community members can experience different calls that law enforcement can face.
More information will be provided soon. Please watch the Message Center for details.

Campus Security Authorities (CSAs)
What is a CSA?
Amendments to the Campus Security Act require that “campus security authorities” report crime statistics for inclusion in the University’s Annual Security Report. If you meet any of the definitions outlined below or have received notification from the president and or your supervisor, you are a “campus security authority” as that term has been defined by the U.S. Department of Education. “Campus security authorities” include, but are not limited to, officials of the University with significant responsibility for students or campus activities.
The following are defined by the Clery Act as Campus Security Authorities:
- Campus Police Department
- Individuals with Campus Security responsibility: Any individuals who have responsibility for campus security but who do not constitute a campus police department or a campus security department, such as an individual who is responsible for monitoring entrance into institutional property. Examples of this category are: parking enforcement staff, event security staff and bicycle patrol staff.
- Individuals Designated by the Campus: Any individual or organization specified in an institution’s statement of campus security policy as one to which students and employees should report criminal offenses. Examples include: chancellor’s office, ombuds’ office and office of student life.
- Officials with Significant Responsibility for Student and Campus Activities: An official of an institution who has significant responsibility for student and campus activities, including, but not limited to, student housing, student discipline and campus judicial proceedings. If such an official is a pastoral or professional counselor as defined below, the official is not considered a campus security authority when acting in those capacities. Examples of this category include: deans of students, student housing officials, students’ discipline officials, students’ judicial affairs officials, officials who oversee a student center, officials who oversee student extracurricular activities, directors of athletics, team coaches and faculty advisers to student groups.
How does Bucknell determine who is a CSA?
We consider employees and others with significant responsibility for students to be CSAs —for example, almost all employees in Student Affairs, Equity & Inclusive Excellence, all coaches and many members of Athletics, and resident assistance. What am I required to do as a CSA?
You are simply required to report Clery-reportable violations to Public Safety if they occur within the campus geography. You do not need to investigate, try to determine if the violation is true, or ask probing questions. You just need to listen and report by using the link below, calling or emailing Public Safety if you are made aware of the following incidents below. For students or anyone who has access to Advocate reporting, that system is also sufficient.

Parking
We know the first week of class had some frigid temperatures. During that first week, we issued over 200 tickets and towed at least five vehicles. We know it can be tempting to park in the ELC loading dock, staff lots, and 7th Street service vehicle area behind Kress, Trax, Roberts and Olin. to be closer to your classes. All of the areas are illegal for students and will subject violators to parking citations.
