Parking
As most of you know, Bucknell has implemented a number of changes to parking on campus for this academic year. Our goal in effecting these changes is to incrementally improve the parking experience for our community while also ensuring compliance with parking rules.
We are pleased to report that we are observing some statistical improvement in parking-related complaints this year. The following table offers a year-over-year comparison of some common parking citations and actions. We look forward to working together with the Bucknell community in continuing to improve the parking situation on campus.
Time Period | Tickets Issued | Vehicles towed |
Aug. 11–Sept. 25, 2024 | 1,090 | 4 (all excessive tickets) |
Aug. 11–Sept. 25, 2024 | 607 | 4 ( 2 excessive tickets, 1 parked in tow away zone, 1 for parking in closed lot) |
Fall Leaf Removal
It’s that time of year — leaf cleanup in Lewisburg will begin again on Monday, Oct. 20, and continue through early December. Beginning on Nov. 3, vehicles parked on borough roads during street cleaning periods will be subject to immediate towing. We encourage you to pay attention to posted parking rules on all borough streets to avoid an expensive and inconvenient mistake.
Scooters and Bicycles
As we enter fall and the days get shorter, we want to remind our community of the following tips for travelling safely in the evening hours:
- Bicycles, scooters and other personal transportation should always be operated in a safe manner with consideration for pedestrians. Wear a portable light and equip your bike or scooter with a headlight to ensure that you are visible in dark conditions.
- Bicycles and scooters should be secured at bike racks. They should not be taken into buildings or placed in a manner that blocks access to any campus building.
- While permitted in most areas of campus, use of personal electric vehicles, including electric scooters and similar devices, is prohibited on streets and sidewalks in adjacent communities, including the Borough of Lewisburg. More information and a map of where these vehicles are prohibited can be found here.
It’s important to be aware that rules and regulations regarding electric scooters and electric bikes can change. Keep yourself up to date through these sources:

Trauma-informed Interview Room
A year ago, students in one of Professor Bill Flack’s psychology classes partnered with Assistant Director of Public Safety Jamie Grobes on designing a trauma-informed interview room for Public Safety. That initial idea and class research project have since become a reality with the opening of a new space in Lowry House.
A trauma-informed space is designed to reduce triggers (harsh lighting, stark walls, intimidating layout) and instead promote calm and safety. This helps survivors feel respected and cared for, increasing the likelihood that they will engage with the investigative process rather than shut down. Trauma affects memory and communication. A stressful environment can make recalling events even harder. A supportive, nonthreatening space allows victims and witnesses to share more accurate, detailed and reliable information. That, in turn, strengthens investigations and the potential for successful prosecutions. We are proud to partner with our Bucknell community on another initiative.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This recognition initiative, created in 1981, seeks to not only to bring more awareness to domestic/intimate partner violence, but to connect and unify the millions of affected victims. Bucknell offers a number of resources available to victims of domestic violence at Bucknell, many of which can be found under the Discrimination and Harassment page on bucknell.edu. Public Safety will take part in a tabling event in the ELC in October around this issue.
