November 2022

BSAFE CAMPAIGN

Public Safety Assistant Director Jamie Grobes has been hard at work the last couple of months getting to know the campus community. One of the initiatives she has created is the BSAFE campaign in conjunction with the Public Safety Student Advisory Committee. BSAFE is based on informative safety initiatives that come directly from the Bucknell community. The month of November includes 3 different programs. Narcan training was held on Nov. 7 in the ELC Forum. A car maintenance workshop will take place on Nov. 10 (see below for more details). A CPR/first aid training will be offered on Nov. 14. William Cameron will train participants in basic first aid and provide certified training through the Red Cross in CPR. Please look out for additional training opportunities in the spring 2023 semester.

BSAFE Car Maintenance Workshop

As we get closer to Thanksgiving break and winter break, we want to share an opportunity related to vehicle safety. On Thursday, Nov. 10, from noon to 1 p.m. Rex Cutchall from Facilities will walk members of the Bucknell community through car maintenance basics — everything from how to change a tire to how to jump a dead battery. We encourage students to participate in this program, which Public Safety is cosponsoring with Bucknell Student Government. To sign up, please register here

TIPS FOR THE MONTH

Tips for the Month

As a reminder, we offer Safe Escorts on campus. Our two new community services officers have started and are available to assist with student escorts from 5 p.m. until 3 a.m. Public Safety officers are available to assist at all other times. We are having some supply chain issues with uniforms, so they won’t be fully outfitted until January.

With colder weather approaching, we remind students to resist the temptation to park in staff lots. We have towed almost 20 vehicles that have received six or more citations. This is not something we want to do. Let’s end the semester on a positive note and park in designated areas. Please consider taking advantage of the shuttle opportunities the University offers.

Please remember to lock your bikes when utilizing bike racks. We have a few bike locks we can distribute and locking your bike will deter theft.

Please know that the safety of our campus community is Public Safety’s highest priority. If you see something, please say something!

Public Safety Student Advisory Committee

This month I will be adding a separate blog post about the Public Safety Student Advisory Committee.  I encourage anyone interested to review the partnership between this student-led committee and Public Safety.
